Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Indomethacin works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Many medicines available over the counter contain aspirin or other medicines similar to indomethacin. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much of this type of medication. Check the label to see if a medicine contains aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, or naproxen. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any cold, allergy, or pain medicine.

Physicians and patients should remain alert for the development of such events, throughout the entire treatment course, even in the absence of previous CV symptoms.

For people with stomach problems: Indomethacin may increase your risk of swelling or bleeding in your stomach and intestines. It may also increase your risk for ulcers.

If you stop taking it: If you don’t take your medication, your pain and swelling may get worse.

Taking other NSAIDs with indomethacin may increase the risk of stomach problems.
