I have taken both short-acting and Ambien CR on and off for years. (I prefer the 10 mg short acting so have been sticking with that.).

See my post about food allergies and insomnia.

Let me know what happens.

Could there be a different inactive ingredient in what the one I’m now taking that might be causing this reaction and not the active ingredient itself? Paisley. Also, I’m taking the generic form and noted that the manufacturer on my most recent bottle is different from previous ones.

The regulations require that the active drug be the same, but the inactive components may differ.

After researching it, it seems unlikely but back in the beginning of February I began with hives and itching that has become unbearable. I’ve eliminated all other meds I’m taking on a regular basis and nothing has changed. I was wondering if anyone has experienced an allergic reaction (hives, internal itching all over the body) from taking Ambien.

Kind of what I’m doing for food allergies. The only way to get to the bottom of it is to do what you mention and stop taking the drug to see if the symptoms clear, then reintroduce the drug and see what happens.

Ambien allergy

If you are suspecting of allergic reaction, you have to stop with Ambien immediay. Rash, if it is from the Ambien use, is just a mild symptom.
