Ambien while pregnant?

I was given Ambien once in a prior pregnancy when false labor kept me awake & I remember that being the best sleep ever! They gave it to me at the hospital and I was out before DH got me home!. I absoluy cannot sleep at night and dont know what to do. Thankfully I dont work but I do have 5 & 6 year old boys at home. I mentione d my insomnia to my doc but seemed like no big deal to him so maybe I just need to come right out and ask for the Ambien. Im 8 wks today and havent had a good night sleep in over 4 weeks. You cant imagine how happy I was to find this topic. I've tried Tylenol PM (non-pregnant) and that stuff makes me so restless (as does Ny-Quil). Some nights I dont even sleep til about 6am then I only get 2 hrs when my boys get up @ 8. Even when I do sleep, my dreams are so active that I wake up tired. My lack of sleep makes me so sick during the day.

So if I'm restless I'm sure baby can feel the stress. I went to my doctor yesterday and I found out that regular ambien is category b. But for the most part it was told to me that it's safe. But for the most part it was told to me that it's safe. So it's safe to take and ambien cr is category c. God bless. Thank u all! Just wanted others opinions. I did finally take ambien after restless nights and I will take only when needed. God bless. Thank u all! Just wanted others opinions. I'd been on it for years and had an insurance issue and couldn't get it for a few weeks but after not quite a week I started sleeping without it and haven't used anything since. I can't lie, sometimes I miss the high that came with it but I do sleep with no problem now :). I have the 10mg ambien but I cut it in half, and that did the trick! I did sleep well. But I'll take it again if needed I want to sleep more than 4 hrs. I haven't taken it since I found out I was pregnant! Until a few nights ago. Thank u! Have a wonderful day!!! And yes all your comments did help!!!. Thank u! Have a wonderful day!!! Yes that's what I was told by my doctor Tylenol pm or benadryl but I was on ambien prior to getting pregnant and u are supposed to take it while laying down in bed no tv no distractions so u don't get those weird episodes! I'm thinking of just not taking it at all, I'll wait and suffer my insomnia. Ugggghhh so sleepy but can't fall asleep!. It just sucks benadryl or Tylenol pm doesn't work. i plan on stopping it once the baby is born for fear that i'll sleep thru her crying or be too groggy to function but until then, i'm getting as much sleep as possible. when i take ambien she'll kick all night long. plus i noticed that my baby was lethargic the next few days. i tried tylenol pm and some others a few times but didn't like how they made me feel. i would ultimay go with whatever your dr ls you is alright i've taken ambien my whole entire pregnancy (37wks). i tried tylenol pm and some others a few times but didn't like how they made me feel. i plan on stopping it once the baby is born for fear that i'll sleep thru her crying or be too groggy to function but until then, i'm getting as much sleep as possible. I was told that Unisom is safe to take during pregnancy. You should check with your doctor though just to be sure. You should check with your doctor though just to be sure. I was told that Unisom is safe to take during pregnancy.

He said any sleep aid (hypnotic) is not a good idea. I take it too and asked my doctor. Just for emergencies. He said any sleep aid (hypnotic) is not a good idea. Thank u I've been so tired and stressed and sleepy I am just so scared to over dose the baby. I know it sounds a bit extreme but seriously I even stay away from caffeine! But I'm dying of sleep. I wonder if it matters, any difference in ambien and ambien cr? Just curious! Thank u I've been so tired and stressed and sleepy I am just so scared to over dose the baby. Thanks for all the input ladies....sweet dreams to us all.

I know how hard it is to be in this situation! Hope you get some rest! I'm 10 weeks pregnant and have been on ambien since the beginning of my pregnancy. The few studies that have been done have shown no negative effects on the baby. Now I am down to a quarter of a pill a hopefully soon won't need anything. BTW, I've also tried benadryl which they say is safe but it didn't work for me either. I've spoken to MANY doctors about it as well as speaking to someone at the teratogen hotline. I've been suffering from terrible insomnia and have been unable to sleep without it. I started with taking a whole 10 mg pill, then after awhile I cut it down to half. All have said that while it is certainly not recommended it is better than not sleeping entire nights. The few studies that have been done have shown no negative effects on the baby. I try to sleep with Tylenol pm or benadryl but it doesn't work. Thank u. I was on it before pregnancy so I stopped then I did well for a while Like 5 months of sleeping well. But my level of stress Is up and I have anxiety also so it's hard being up at night staring at the dark room. I have taken it twice since. or i don't remember what i did, but there's evidence that i did something (like waking up with no pants on). hmm. i'm also crazy about not taking substances like caffeine or any meds i can get by without. i took ambien regularly (almost every night) before pregnancy, then stopped when ttc. i took ambien regularly (almost every night) before pregnancy, then stopped when ttc. i'm pretty sure i meant to offer advice here, but i don't seem to be saying anything meaningful. i've had periods of getting lots of sleep and getting next to no sleep during the pregnancy. i guess i'd say give ambien a shot one night and see if it helps regulate you, like it did for pp. i'm also crazy about not taking substances like caffeine or any meds i can get by without. for some reason, all of the weird things i've done made sense at the time, but in the morning, i'm shocked. i also have many stories of strange things i've done on the drug, but i don't always follow the 'lay down and stay in bed' part of the instructions. anyway, i took ambien 2x early in pregnancy after the ER told me i had a m/c (turned out to just be a polyp, LO was fine) and my doc said it was fine. i've had terribly insomnia since puberty. i also have many stories of strange things i've done on the drug, but i don't always follow the 'lay down and stay in bed' part of the instructions. or i don't remember what i did, but there's evidence that i did something (like waking up with no pants on). hmm. i've had periods of getting lots of sleep and getting next to no sleep during the pregnancy. anyway, i took ambien 2x early in pregnancy after the ER told me i had a m/c (turned out to just be a polyp, LO was fine) and my doc said it was fine. i've had terribly insomnia since puberty. for some reason, all of the weird things i've done made sense at the time, but in the morning, i'm shocked. i guess i'd say give ambien a shot one night and see if it helps regulate you, like it did for pp. it may not be enough for your system to fix itself, if you have a chronic sleeping problem, but a good night of sleep certainly can't hurt. it may not be enough for your system to fix itself, if you have a chronic sleeping problem, but a good night of sleep certainly can't hurt. i'm pretty sure i meant to offer advice here, but i don't seem to be saying anything meaningful.

She doesn't have episodes at night, but if she even has one glass of wine during the day, she is crazy. And then comes the binge eating that she doesn't remember (that's usually at night). It has damaged our relationship and I don't want her around our children until she gets off the drug. Her doctor said the sane thing about it being better to take it long term than not sleep (stress etc). The experience that I have with Ambien is that my mother takes it nightly. Please do everything you can to not take that drug, it has done nothing but cause pain for all us involved.
