Therefore, potassium abnormalities should be corrected before starting Norpace or Norpace CR therapy. Antiarrhythmic drugs may be ineffective in patients with hypokalemia, and their toxic effects may be enhanced in patients with hyperkalemia.

This medication is used to treat certain types of serious (possibly fatal) irregular heartbeat, such as persistent ventricular tachycardia. It is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular, steady heartbeat. Disopyramide is known as an anti-arrhythmic drug.

Store at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Brief storage between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not double the dose to catch up. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip themissed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.

The risk of QT prolongation may be increased if you have certain medical conditions or are taking other drugs that may cause QT prolongation.

Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. The usual adult dosage of Norpace or Norpace CR is 400 to 800 mg per day given in divided doses. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. During pregnancy, Norpace should be used only when prescribed. Norpace may interact with other anti-arrhythmics, beta-blockers, erythromycin, clarithromycin, phenytoin, phenobarbital, cisapride, rifampin, or warfarin.
