To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of FLOXIN (ofloxacin tablets) Tablets and other antibacterial drugs, FLOXIN (ofloxacin tablets) Tablets should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.

When bathing, avoid getting the infected ear(s) wet. It is important that the infected ear(s) remain clean and dry. Avoid swimming unless the doctor has instructed otherwise.

Repeat, if necessary, for the opposite ear (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION ). This position should be maintained for five minutes to facilitate penetration of the drops into the ear canal. Prior to administration of Floxin Otic, the solution should be warmed by holding the bottle in the hand for one or two minutes to avoid dizziness which may result from the instillation of a cold solution.

This medication is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Ofloxacin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, such as tendon problems (especially if they are also taking corticosteroids such as prednisone or hydrocortisone ) and QT prolongation (see above).
