For some reason it is hard for me to read on a plane. I think there is a low level anxiety (or a high-level anxiety being masked by sedatives and herbs) that keeps.
Nobody looks good after a 10 hour flight and besides that nobody is looking. If your collar is uncomfortable in the taxi it will feel worse on the plane. So wear lose clothes and don't be so concerned about how you look. If your shoes feel uncomfortable and your socks smell in the airport you will feel self-conscious on the plane. Yes it would be nice if we could all travel in our favorite flannel pajamas but that would make the line to the bathroom even worse. If your pants are too tight when you leave your home they will feel tighter on the plane.
If you find yourself in serious turbulence just keep your eyes on the faces of the stewardesses as they smile as if everything is fine as they have been trained to do.
I hate flying! I flew so many times and still not use to it. I always get anxiety the day of flying. Feeling a bit anxious right now. Out of benadryl.
I do the same as you, look around at steweardesses etc as they're calm. I can't even look at a plane in the sky wihtout getting the shivers. I was asking her all sorts of questions about the noises etc, she was trying not to laugh at me but she calmly answered my questions. The best flight I had so far was a short haul flight with my best friend who is a frequent flyer.
5mg is probably effective enough 10mg you'd be asleep on plane! N.

My doctor is giving me a prescription for my upcoming flight.. Hope this report helps anyone with flight anxiety decide if they might want to talk.
I could have four beers on the ground - about my limit. Let us know how your at-home test with any prescription works out, okay?. At the risk of sounding simplistic, my strategy is simply to have a few drinks before the flight. Along those lines, if the flight attendents are relaxed, then there's nothing to worry about. Similar, maybe, but definiy not the same. Of course, maybe that's not your preference, option, or you simply do not partake. Your concern sounds more like you want to be relaxed, an anxiety issue, not a sleeping issue.
Does anybody know of any good sedatives to take for a long flight. that is an anti anxiety prescription which helps me to sleep on a flight.
Speak to your GP, speak to the Pharmacist if you're given something that needs collecting at the dispensary, and please adhere to the recommended dose.
Also IF you get something you should try it first in the safety of your home. Don't take a new medication for the first time on a flight.
I have something I keep around that is an anti anxiety prescription which helps me to sleep on a flight.
I wouldn't want something to "knock me out compley" but something that relaxes you so you can sleep.
It doesn't mean though, that I wouldn't wake up if I had to use the rest room or if there was an emergency.
I may give Night Nurse a try though.
