I listened again just a couple days ago. Kinda perfect for just drifting off, the way the samples enter and exit haphazardly feels like slipping in and out of sleep.

Wonderful suggestions, thank you! I really do regret not including Substrata, to be honest. Maybe I’d just seen it on too many other lists, but it’s there for a reason – it’s a true classic.

Some enjoy the way that it can dilate time, shifting perception for vast stretches.

As a longtime nerd of electronic music in all of its forms, compiling a list of just ten of the best ambient albums is true torture for me.

(3) Global Communication – “ Pentamerous Metamorphosis ” & “ 76:14 ” (1993 & 1994).

The group used it as a vehicle to coyly promote their own tracks like “ 3 A.M. Eternal “, “ Last Train To Trancentral “, and “ Justified and Ancient “, but “Chill Out” was the moment their imagined concept album took on a much deeper meaning. Never before has an album been more of a gateway between the old and the new, escalating disparities such as Elvis and acid house, transposing them over chanting monks and news blips about kids being killed in auto accidents.
