Standard ambient temperature and pressure

Standard ambient temperature and pressure

12.23.2017 | Logan Miers

Standard conditions for temperature and pressure are standard sets of conditions for experimental measurements established to allow comparisons to be made.

An unofficial, but commonly used standard is standard ambient temperature and pressure ( SATP ) as a temperature of 298.15 K (25 °C, 77 °F) and an absolute pressure of 100 kPa (14.504 psi, 0.987 atm). In chemistry, IUPAC established standard temperature and pressure (informally abbreviated as STP ) as a temperature of 273.15 K (0 °C, 32 °F) and an absolute pressure of 100 kPa (14.504 psi, 0.987 atm, 1 bar ).

STP vs Standard State Conditions

8.19.2017 | Jessica MacAdam

STP is short for Standard Temperature and Pressure, which is defined be used, which means Standard Ambient Temperature and Pressure.

STP describes Standard Conditions. Here, 1 mole of ideal gas occupies 22.4 L. STP is short for Standard Temperature and Pressure, which is defined to be 273 K (0° Celsius) and 1 atm pressure (or 105 Pa).

STP - Standard Temperature and Pressure & NTP

1 Pa = 10-6 N/mm2 = 10-5 bar = 0.1020 kp/m2 = 1.02x10-4 m H 2 O = 9.869x10-6 atm = 1.45x10-4 psi (lbf/in2).

However. Note! The earlier IUAPC definition of STP to 273.15 K and 1 atm (1.01325 105 Pa) is discontinued.

Since temperature and air pressure varies from place to place a standard reference is necessary for comparing the testing and the documentation of chemical and physical processes.

NTP is commonly used as a standard condition for testing and documentation of fan capacities:

SATP - Standard Ambient Temperature and Pressure is also used in chemistry as a reference:

ISA - International Standard Atmosphere is used as a reference to aircraft performance:

It is always important to know the reference temperature and reference pressure for the actual definition used.

SATP - Standard Ambient Temperature and Pressure is a reference with temperature of 25oC (298.15 K) and pressure of 101 kPa.

A fan producing a static pressure of 3 in H 2 O (a good average value) - will increase the absolute air pressure by.
