I'm a total emotional wreck from not being able to sleep. at this point the lack of sleep may very well be worse than taking an Ambien. It doesn't work for me (Benadryl does, though), but it is very safe during pregnancy as it.
Also, my personal checklist:
Benedryl, melatonin, calcium/magnesium supplements don't work longer than one night. The next night either one is totally useless.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? Your doctor may consider a prescription sleep aid, since at this point the lack of sleep may very well be worse than taking an Ambien.
I also have become weirdly claustrophobic at night time since becoming pregnant.
I was allowed to take benadryl when I was pregnant. Benadryl 50mg or Unisom 50mg are both considered safe to take while pregnant.. are different, but my OB insisted on my taking Ambien in the lowest dose possible.

A common question about Benadryl is if it is safe to take Benadryl while due to the fact that Ambien is more likely to cause side effects during the pregnancy.
No comments yet. The chances of Benadryl producing side effects in your baby while breastfeeding are very low. In rare cases enough Benadryl can be transferred to your baby through your breast milk to increase sedation but this is not something to worry about. The main reason for this is that taking Benadryl has been shown to reduce the supply of milk. In small doses it is probably alight to take but should not be taken regularly while breastfeeding. This is due to its dehydrating properties. It is generally not advised to take Benadryl while nursing.
